About me

As molecular biologist and physician,I am a translational scientist interested in transferring basic biomedical research findings into individualized therapies. My major interests lie on cancermetastasis, the connection betweenneurogenesis and cancer, tumor stem cell-targetedtreatments and cellular programming strategies. Our workconcentrates on signaling networks and epigenetic signatures causingtumorprogression, heterogeneity anddrug resistanceas well as the tumor-associated immune-microenvironment and thereby focusses on the E2F transcription factor interactome and p53 family members. By usinghigh-throughput omics approaches combined with viral vector and genome editing technologies, we identify molecular alterations in dynamic regulatory processes, apply modeling approaches to predict clinical relevant biomarkers and create custom-made anti-metastatic drugs. In the area of gene therapy, the main scope of research is development oftarget cell-specific smart-adenoviral vector technologiesand innovative gene delivery tools for in situ-application. The work of my group provides fundamental new insights into the cellular and molecular principles of metastasis and through developing personalized treatmentsemphasizes the great utility of molecular therapies for oncology, regenerative medicine and neuroscience.
