Research interest

As molecular biologist and physician, I am a translational scientist interested in transferring basic research findings into individualized therapies. My major interests lie on cancer metastasis, connection between neurogenesis and cancer, tumor stem cell-targeted treatments and cellular programming strategies. Our work concentrates on signaling networks and epigenetic signatures causing tumor progression and heterogeneity, drug resistance as well as the immune-microenvironment and thereby focusses on the E2F1 transcription factor interactome and p53 family members. By using high-throughput omics combined with viral vector and genome editing technologies, we identify molecular alterations in dynamic regulatory processes, apply modeling approaches to predict biomarkers and create custom-made antimetastatic drugs. In the area of gene therapy, the main scope of research is development of smart-adenoviral vector technologies and innovative gene delivery tools for in situ-application. The work of my group provides fundamental new insights into the cellular and molecular principles of tumor metastasis and emphasizes the great utility of molecular therapies.
